Name of Your Business

Personalized Educational Solutions, Education Station and The College Axis Project.

How Does Your Work Enable You to Connect to and Fulfill Your Life Purpose/Passion?

I am a helper by nature. I feel most fulfilled when I am able to be of service, advice and counsel that is of value. I take my role as a college coach very seriously and believe that I am fulfilling my life’s purpose.

Who Is Your Ideal Client and Why?

My ideal client is the student and family who are open to finding their best educational matches. I really believe that in this increasingly competitive and complicated college landscape, that there are so many paths that a student may pursue and that it is always the path that is uniquely one’s own that is the most meaningful. I love listening to students, understanding what their goals are and helping strategize and coach them to reach for (and achieve) their goals.

What Unique Offerings Do You Provide?

Personalized Educational Solutions strives to personalize each student’s educational plan as he/she gets ready to embark on completing a rite of passage, doing deep reflection, pushing him/herself out of her comfortable places and digging deep. We do this by supporting students with academic tutoring, standardized test preparation, academic and college planning. We also offer a combination of private and small group options, endeavoring to make college counseling and academic support accessible to as many families as possible. My business partner and I have also just opened up a nonprofit called The College Axis Project with the intention to bring the work we do to underprivileged students across the country.

Who Was Your Role Model Growing Up? How Did That Person’s Actions Impact You?

I guess my greatest role model was my mom. She was a selfless giver. She also worked a lot. Regardless of her commitment to her work, her kids were her priority. I think that’s something that I have always emulated as a mom, and as a working, single mom. My kids and I have been through a lot together, and they know that I have needed to work a lot to pay the bills and to sustain our lives. We’ve been so blessed to enjoy such a high quality of life. But no matter what, my kids know that if they need me, I’m here. No matter what. And that I am their greatest fan, champion, and support. Even when I don’t agree with them.

What Unique Offerings Do You Provide?

The combination of the application of the highest quality of Essential oils delivered through a unique and effective methodology known as the AromaTouch Technique. Combine this with a meditation leads to a compelling mind and body experience.

Who Was Your Role Model Growing Up? How Did That Person’s Actions Impact You?

I am South African and grew up during the Apartheid/Segregation era. Apartheid existed in South Africa from 1948 – 1990’s. I was judged by the color of my skin so that meant which school I could attend, where I live, which bench I could sit on in the park, etc. My role model was non other than Nelson Mandela, or Madiba, as he was fondly known to us.  Madiba was the beacon of hope for all South Africans and represented freedom. His life thought me valuable lessons to stand up for what I believe, to see people as human first before the color of their skin or race, to forgive even when you think it’s an impossible thing to do, and to have selfless love and to always stay humble. The sacrifices of Nelson Mandela gave me freedom, the right to vote for the first time at the age of 24 in the first democratic election and have a voice.

Favorite Place to Escape and Refuel?

I love walking in nature. It keeps me grounded and connected to Gaia.

Top 3 Ways to Treat Yourself to Self-Care?

1. Daily meditation.
2. Taking time off for me.
3. A massage or facial.

Favorite Movie and Why?

Shawshank Redemption. There is a short quote in the movie which is impactful and inspiring ‘ get busy living or get busy dying’. These powerful words for me speak of overcoming what we perceive as impossible by daring to dream, stay hopeful and aspire to our full potential.

“Go to” Quote or Mantra that Grounds You?

” It always seems impossible until its done ” Nelson Mandela.

Accomplishment Are You Most Proud of?

Even after leaving a high level executive banking career my greatest accomplishment is being a Mom and my daughter, After years of failed pregnancy attempts we were gifted with my daughter. I can’t be more grateful and thankful for her.  She is now 16 years old, a bright, strong, ambitious, courageous and kind human, I am so proud of her.

Best Lesson Learned in Life So Far?

Take chances, take risks, take the road less traveled, you’d be surprised where it takes you! I am so thankful to have lived in three amazing cities Milan (Italy), Basel (Switzerland) and presently Boston. It’s been a great adventure filled with amazing experiences, great food and meeting super interesting people. Life is way too short … Live a life full of love.

Advice to Younger Self?

Name of Your Business

Meg Francis Coaching.

How Does Your Work Enable You to Connect to and Fulfill Your Life Purpose/Passion?

My passion is helping others feel empowered to express their authentic selves in everything they do. I find tremendous joy when I see someone find that “aha!” moment. I know the feeling of being stuck in life and I have explored multiple ways to find freedom. It is my mission to guide others to find a similar freedom for themselves.

Who Is Your Ideal Client and Why?

My ideal client is women, ages 30-70 who are: going through a transition and unsure what to do next, want to feel more joy in their life, want to experience deeper relationships with themselves and others, are looking for a sense of belonging and connection.

What Unique Offerings Do You Provide?

I use many tools to help my clients. I am a certified Spiritual Sexual Awakening and Healing practitioner, which helps men and women to release trauma that has been held in the body. I teach about Shamanic journeys and perform soul retrievals. I am an experienced intuitive facilitator of healing and have many more tools in my toolbox, including mediumship and card readings. I will use whichever ones are needed for my clients on any given day.

Who Was Your Role Model Growing Up? How Did That Person’s Actions Impact You?

My greatest role model would be my mom. She was a single mom and has always stayed solution focused in any crisis. By the time she was 25 years old, she was married and divorced with 3 young children. She maintained a 3 bedroom house with a huge yard, worked long hours and always made us feel loved and cared for. She might not have always felt like she knew what she was doing, but she sure looked like it. Though we differ in many ways, I learned how to embrace my inner strength from my mom.

Favorite Place to Escape and Refuel?

Western Massachusetts (where my mom lives on 300 acres of farmland)

Top 3 Ways to Treat Yourself to Self-Care?

1. Wake up with a smile and a sip of water.
2. Take days off when needed.
3. Dance.

How Do You Express Yourself Creatively?

I love big artsy earrings. In addition to that, there is a pretty large craft room in my house, filled with paints, canvases, 2 sewing machines, bins of fabric, glue, markers, and so much more. I love creating…anything.

Last Memorable Book You Read and Why?

Tantra Goddess: A Memoir of Sexual Awakening, by Caroline Muir- While reading about Caroline’s life and her experiences with self exploration, I found myself give myself greater permission to explore different parts of me. It made me rethink what kind of romantic partnership I might want (or not want). Having met Caroline in person, I could feel her zest for life that came from a long life of trauma and recovery of self.

Favorite Movie and Why?

Under the Tuscan Sun – There was a time I feared stepping out on my own to run a business. This movie is a great example that anything is possible, but you have to try. And though it might not always be easy, following your passion is worth every bit of struggle. I am no longer trapped by fear.

“Go to” Quote or Mantra that Grounds You?

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” – Anais Nin. I have worked for many years with women in recovery from addiction and sex trafficking. My specialty is helping women recover from trauma. And in the world of recovery, a lot of people say “when the pain is great enough, they will return.” I can say this is true not only from the people I work with, but from my own life experiences.

Accomplishment Are You Most Proud of?

Raising 2 empowered young women (ages 22 ands 15) who still come to me for advice, friendship, comfort and snuggles. Many people have witnessed the relationship the 3 of us have and call it magical. I would agree.

Best Lesson Learned in Life So Far?

Always honor your inner tug. (that thing that keeps calling you to say YES! to life).

Advice to Younger Self?

You will make it, no matter what because you were made to be amazing!

What Do You Love Best About Yourself (physical trait or personality characteristic) and Why?

I love my laugh and my ability to remain calm in stressful situations. My sister-in-law once called me the “calming agent.”

Name of Your Business

Martha Washington Visits; Beautycounter.

How Does Your Work Enable You to Connect to and Fulfill Your Life Purpose/Passion?

I have so many passions. First person interpretation has always fascinated me and made me very fulfilled to observe (think talking to the Pilgrims at Plimoth Patuxet). And fabric – silk, linen, and wool – have always given me an adrenaline rush. Combine them with bringing Martha’s story to life, and I am able to be fulfilled in a way that is hard to describe. And if you let me loose in one of Washington’s Headquarters (their actual space) without anyone else there? That is the height of fulfillment to me.

I am also passionate about healthy living. It all started when my son reacted violently to food dye at 18 months old. My education began about food ingredients and I told anyone I came in contact with to check their labels, teaching them the things to watch out for. It took 7 more years before I realized that what you put on your skin goes in and impacts your health. So much more information to learn and share! But with personal care products, I had an avenue to earn an income from it with Beautycounter, and for that I am grateful. I joined them for the mission the day they opened without ever trying a product. Happy to report that I am in love with their products and philosophy!

Who Is Your Ideal Client and Why?

For Martha: My visits are ideal for those interested in history, historical costuming, women’s stories, or children who need to be engaged in school in a different way. I visit schools, libraries, historical societies, social clubs, and historic sites, all in person and virtually throughout the United States.

For Beautycounter: Anyone who wants to be have personalized service by me with results driven clean beauty that is sustainably sourced. Beautycounter is available in the US and Canada. We also have a truly rewarding Band of Beauty Member Program for those who like to earn rewards when they shop.

What Unique Offerings Do You Provide?

For Martha: What my visits provide is a unique way to touch history – I do not do performances, but visits. These are conversations between the guests and Martha. Visits generally have a theme, such as Martha as a wife/mother/mother of our country or joining Martha as she gets dressed while catching up on the news of the day. As well, visits may happen with me dressed as Martha, but sharing thoughts as to how to make history relevant to present people, or WHY it is important to make history relevant to present people.

For Beautycounter: I provide a safe place to make the change to clean beauty with complimentary consultations for skin/body/haircare and color cosmetics. I want people to love what they are using and feel good about their choices. And I help people to understand how to choose cleaner products, even if they are not mine! One by one, Beautycounter is leading a movement to a future where all beauty is clean beauty. We are powered by people, and our collective mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone. Formulate, advocate, & educate— that’s our motto for creating products that truly perform while holding ourselves to unparalleled standards of safety.

Who Was Your Role Model Growing Up? How Did That Person’s Actions Impact You?

Laura Ingalls was my escape, the books more than the TV show. Since I was 8 years old, she was more of a life goal for me, rather than a role model. I truly wanted to live like her, taking care of the farm, hauling water, walking with a lunch pail to a one room schoolhouse. Until I “discovered” the 18th century, I thought that the 1870’s were the place for me. Little did I know that I was off by 100 years. But, I was introduced to historical costuming, and different times and places, and that there were different ways of thinking that didn’t fit with how I was brought up to think and act. When I started studying the 18th century in 1998, I felt like I had found my true home.

Favorite Place to Escape and Refuel?

I will always head for the woods when I need to reset. If there is a stream, a brook, or a river in those woods, then I have hit the  jackpot!

Top 3 Ways to Treat Yourself to Self-Care?

1. A massage.
2. A romance novel.
3. or a hot bath!

Also, unplugging!!!! Yes, I know that is 4…

How Do You Express Yourself Creatively?

I love to write as Martha, using quill and ink on parchment paper, and writing by candlelight. And during the pandemic, I have been learning how to play piano.

Last Memorable Book You Read and Why?

The most impactful book ever for me was Outlander. Without it, I would never have started researching the 18th century. It led me down a rabbit hole that changed my entire life.

Favorite Movie and Why?

Dirty Dancing – I am an 80’s girl at heart. It always makes me smile.

“Go to” Quote or Mantra that Grounds You?

Quote: “Don’t worry until you are told there is something to worry about.”
Mantra: “Peace and Ease.”

Accomplishment Are You Most Proud of?

Stepping out in front of a room full of people and NOT passing out.

Best Lesson Learned in Life So Far?

Listen so you can truly hear. Don’t spend your time while listening thinking of what you want to say next.

Advice to Younger Self?

You have no idea what awaits you in life. Be open to anything and embrace the non cookie cutter path.

What Do You Love Best About Yourself (physical trait or personality characteristic) and Why?

My hair – because I can do so many things with it, including playing Martha convincingly without a wig! I stopped coloring my hair back in 2014, before it was trendy. Got a lot of flack from my friends about it, but it felt right to me.

Any Advice for Women Considering Joining the SheBreathes Collaborative?

This Collaborative is really so much more than networking. It is a group of like minded women who lift each other up and who learn from one another. When you walk into the room, it’s like a group hug, even if we are socially distanced.

Any Message You Have for Our Community?

So looking forward to seeing everyone in person again soon!
