How Does Your Work Enable You to Connect to and Fulfill Your Life Purpose/Passion?

I opened my clinic because I was let go from my position of 21 years, where I had built an incredible practice caring for amazing women. I was a casualty of corporate greed, when our small community hospital based practice was purchased by a large for-profit investment firm. I knew that I had to find a way to continue caring for my many long time patients in the way I believed they should be “cared” for. I was born a “nurse” because of my caring nature, but with the corporatization of medicine, the industry lost sight of the caring. I wanted to create a way of putting the “health” and the “care” back into healthcare….especially for women.

Who Is Your Ideal Client and Why?

My ideal client is any woman (ages 14-100+) that values their health and wants to be a partner with me as I help them to not only treat their ailments, but to help them achieve their “Optimal Wellness”, naturally! Although, women’s health is traditionally thought of as gynecology, I like to think that women are so much more than their reproductive parts; we have hearts, brains, skin, digestive systems and so much more and these all need to work together to create the “Whole”. My ideal client wants to be recognized as a whole being, not just the sum of their body parts.

What Unique Offerings Do You Provide?

Because of my focus on the whole woman, I offer complete wellness care for my clients, including comprehensive gynecology services, wellness programs including natural, scientifically studied nutriceuticals, and customized weight loss programs. I offer a GeneSNP DNA Analysis to help me customize a plan based on the individual’s unique genetic make up….One size does not fit all when it comes to wellness and prevention is the name of the game. I have spent the past few years educating myself more on lifestyle, functional medicine, as a way to treat my patients holistically.

Who Was Your Role Model Growing Up? How Did That Person’s Actions Impact You?

Although I was born and raised in the Boston suburbs, it was in a culture where I did not have many strong female role models. The woman that comes to mind is my best friend’s mother, Jane, who worked full time as a registered nurse, while raising 7 children. I had always been told by my family that I could never be a nurse, because they thought I had a “weak stomach” like my mother. Thankfully, as I fell in love with science, I learned that I do not have a weak stomach for blood or guts, but rather an extremely weak stomach for pain and suffering. Because of my love of science and academic success, I studied pre-med in college. Jane gave me a job in our community hospital as I was applying to medical schools and I was introduced to the world of nursing (i.e. caring) and realized that I was meant to be a nurse, not a doctor. Because of the opportunity she gave me, I applied to graduate nursing programs instead of medical school and it remains one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Favorite Place to Escape and Refuel?

Any place where I can have some quality “Tina” time. I love the ocean and the mountains. Whether its sitting on the beach reading a good book or hiking in beautiful mountains, I love connecting with nature.

Meditation, Massage and quality time with family/friends

How Do You Express Yourself Creatively?

I’m a crazy knitter! I love to relax in the evening with a nice glass of wine while knitting my next masterpiece. I knit all the warm, comfortable foot rests on our exam tables.

Last Memorable Book You Read and Why?

“A Mind of Your Own” by Kelly Brogan, MD. She has an amazing holistic insight into how medicine and prescription drugs has changed all our health, but especially women’s health. I refer to her book daily in my practice as a way to help others take control of their emotional and physical health by making small lifestyles changes on a regular basis.

Favorite Movie and Why?

The Blind Side….I didn’t see it as a story about the rise of a successful athlete, but more about what can be accomplished with the kindness, caring and love of a strong woman (mother).

Accomplishment Are You Most Proud of?

My children! Motherhood has been the hardest, yet most rewarding role of my life, thus far….especially for the 8 years I was a single Mom

Tough times never last; Tough people DO!

Advice to Younger Self?

1. Take the time to enjoy the journey and don’t rush each phase, challenge or moment, because it all goes by so fast.

2. Have faith and believe that everything is happening the way it is supposed to…you’ll understand the reasons later.

What Do You Love Best About Yourself (physical trait or personality characteristic) and Why?

My strength and my belief! I would never have known what I was capable of if it were not for the incredible challenges I’ve faced. I have in the past, I can now and I will in the future, accomplish anything I set my mind to.
