How Does Your Work Enable You to Connect to and Fulfill Your Life Purpose/Passion?

I’ve always felt passionate about living the healthiest, fullest life possible. And from this place of personal well-being, to create positive social impact. I have devoted my entire career to helping others do the same—one moment, one breath, one choice at a time. Practicing mindfulness helped me get through the most turbulent time of my life. As a mindfulness teacher for over 20 years, I feel a deep sense of purpose when I am helping women overcome adversity and thrive forward–mentally, spiritually, socially, emotionally, and physically.

Who Is Your Ideal Client and Why?

My ideal client is a woman who is curious about mindfulness–one who is ready to practice self-honesty in order to re-stabilize, build some new wellness skills, and flourish forward. I tend to attract entrepreneurs, managers, and leaders who want to meet the demands of life with a little more grace and ease.

Who Was Your Role Model Growing Up? How Did That Person’s Actions Impact You?

My high school volleyball coach and physical education teacher, Linda Hamm inspired me to design a career helping others to be fit and healthy. I recall her telling me that I played volleyball with my heart. Turns out, this is how I’ve lived my life.

Favorite Place to Escape and Refuel?

Hiking trails in New England with my two adult children.

Top 3 Ways to Treat Yourself to Self-Care?

I ask myself throughout the day, “What is the most self-caring choice I can make right now?” Having a mindfulness practice helps me know what I need in the moment.

How Do You Express Yourself Creatively?

I appreciate how creativity can present itself in any moment when I open my mind to the possibilities. I enjoy expressing creativity through writing. I’ve authored two books; Thriving When Your Cosmic Egg Is Cracked: A Mindful Journey and Mindful Exercise: A Bridge Between Yoga and Exercise. I’m also pretty creative in the kitchen and most often cook without recipes.

Last Memorable Book You Read and Why?

Reading The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer gave me the courage to trust myself and to create my new company Thriving Circles Global. It validated the importance of honoring my soul’s desire, especially now at the start of a new decade.

Favorite Movie and Why?

I don’t have one favorite movie but I have watched Under the Tuscan Sun a number of times. I really like Diane Lane and recently discovered that it was directed by a woman, which makes me like it even more. I love how Frances is able to let go of everything to start a new chapter. And how by keeping her heart open she makes new friends and even finds love again.

“Go to” Quote or Mantra that Grounds You?

“Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong.” —Ella Fitzgerald.

Accomplishment Are You Most Proud of?

Raising my two children as a solo parent through tumultuous times and now seeing them flourish has been the greatest accomplishment and blessing of my life.

Best Lesson Learned in Life So Far?

Believing in myself at age 60 is an important life lesson for me these days. The workplace and American society at large doesn’t value older people. I will not become invisible nor will I let age or other people’s views define me and what I have to offer. I’m actually very excited and hopeful about this next chapter. Forget retirement. I’m choosing rewirement!

Advice to Younger Self?

People usually don’t mean to hurt you. They just don’t have the capacity to do any better. Bless them and stay focused on what you can be in charge of—yourself!

What Do You Love Best About Yourself (physical trait or personality characteristic) and Why?

I’ve come to appreciate my capacity to love–myself and others. I’ve taken some pretty big hits in life and my heart has been broken many times by loss and disappointment. More than resilience, I’ve kept my heart and mind open to the possibilities. So long as I am alive and breathing, I can begin again.
